  • November Farm Update We have been busy increasing our numbers of cattle on the farm ready to house them over winter. We have linked together with the Yorkshire Wagyu Company to rear Wagyu alongside our other beef stores. Our last group of ewes is still currently in with their ram, the rest have moved back out to their own grass paddock to recuperate from all their hard work. Posted 23 November 2017

  • October's Farm Update Our in hand farm has been busy working with veterans to update and improve our current farm buildings to make them suitable for housing our current and future livestock. We have sold a number of store lambs and some of our store cattle. Selling our store stock and improving our buildings has given us the capacity to increase our stock numbers, particularly with cattle and the purchase of our stock rams. Our teaser rams and stock rams have been put in with the ewes, providing us with the start of lambing 2018. Posted 18 October 2017

  • Highground and Buchanan Trust - Joint working statement. Following a recent meeting with Andrew Bower, Chairman, and James Greenwell Trustee  of the Buchanan Trust, and Anna Baker Cresswell, Founder and Development Director of HighGround, we are delighted to announce that both charities will be working together to pursue their common aims in order to help veterans access training and employment in the land-based sector.
HighGround will continue their highly successful Rural Weeks at UK agricultural colleges for Service Leavers and Veterans (HighGrounders) to find out about land-based employment and self-employment, and their work experience initiative to help HighGrounders take up appropriate work placement on the many farms and estates who have kindly volunteered experience as part of HighGround’s mission, Life beyond the military – Outdoors.
The Buchanan Trust have a training facility at their Bosbury Estate in Herefordshire which currently provides rural and construction sector skills training with end of course certificates. Accommodation is currently arranged locally but plans are underway to raise funds for a new residential block for course attendees. Posted 4 August 2017

Training for certificates in agricultural skills
We are looking to arrange the first of what should be an ongoing provision of veterans/service leavers courses that will give them certificates in plant or machinery operation which could lead in to a well-paid employment around the region given there is a shortage of operators. The first course is likely to be for dumper truck or excavator operation. If you are interested in this or another course, pleased contact us with your details and area of interest. We have funding available for qualifying veterans so these courses should be free
